Socceroos

Despite the Ashes being about to start back in Oz, Gav still mananged to see a bit of live aussie sport recently with the team when the Socceroos took on fellow world cup quarter finalists the Ghana Black Stars.
Nick and Katy, Caius and Tara joined the supporters crew and we were treated to a great soccer game (cant quite bring myself to call it "football" yet) with the socceroos dominating for most of the match despite missing quite a few of their star players. It was a great atmosphere with almost 14,000 mostly Aussie supporters and a fair few vocal Ghanaians (I had to check the spelling of that one on the internet!) playing the drums throughout the game! Not quite Eurokang in Germany standard but still good fun! And its even good to hear an Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi Oi Oi when you havent heard it for a while!
The Socceroos took the lead in the first half, through a John Aloisi penalty and came close to scoring again after some great shots. Ghana came back in the second half and a Schwarzer (our goalkeeper) mistake let them back into the Game. Despite some close chances the game finished as a draw at 1 all.
It was a great to see the team in action and I can see how they have gained so much support at home and given the way the Wallabies are playing at the moment they may be our best hope to be our next World Cup winners!
